Bring a Trailer Daily Mail

Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 6.17.26 AM

Our first ever BaT Auctions event ended yesterday with a flurry of activity on the Alfa Romeo and the BMW M3, and interestingly the Boss 302 snuck out for what we think was a screaming deal for the buyer. We had the highest load on our servers that we have ever seen as the BMW closed, which was to be expected give the 200+ watchers on that listing. Overall the system worked well apart from some final second countdown issues associated with server refresh rates. We are very happy that we tested the first event with our own cars, and are now launching our second BaT Auctions group, again with three of our own cars, plus one reader car this time, a BMW 2002. Find them all here on the auctions page. These are open for previewing and commenting now, and bidding will go live this Wednesday, August 6th. Thanks for all the great feedback over the last week! We have already implemented many of your suggestions, and enhanced functionality for comment order selection, improved photo galleries, and faster server speeds for the auction finish will all be rolled out in the coming days. Please keep the feedback and ideas coming! -BaT

1959 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite Front

This 1959 Bugeye Sprite is being sold by its second owner who has largely restored the car over the past several years. Work done is said to include a respray in Leaf Green, new rockers, and a host of mechanical work. The car is said to retain many of its original 55+ year old trim, and even comes with original tires (though it currently sits on new rubber). While not perfect, we really like the color and its known history. Find it here on eBay in Highland, Michigan with a $16k BIN.

Clean 1951 Kaiser Henry J

This 1951 Henry J (chassis K513009780) is described as a restored, two owner car that was stored in a climate controlled garage since completion in the early 1970's. It's said to run and drive perfectly, and benefits from new tires, rebuilt carb, NOS fuel pump, fresh brakes and more. Mileage is recorded as 31k, and overall the little car looks like a clean, amateur restored driver. Find it here on eBay in Louisville, Illinois with reserve not met.

Sorted & Clean: 63K Mile 1976 Lancia Scorpion

This 1976 Scorpion (VIN 137AS0100572) is a claimed rust-free, 63k mile, three owner example that looks and sounds to be in extraordinarily good condition. This aqua/tan color combo is our favorite for the model, and though not 100% original it is thought to retain most of its factory paint and much of the interior as well. The car runs some nice Euro-spec upgrades including larger carb and lower-riding springs from a Montecarlo, and is also said to run and drive very well. Find it here on eBay in Santa Clara, California with reserve not met.

1960_panhard_tigre_for_sale_front

This 1960 Panhard PL17 Tigre looks like a mix between excellent survivor and sympathetic restoration, and is being sold as part of a Texas collection by OldBug. The car wears California blue plates, which it would likely have received in the mid-1970's. Overall it appears to be in excellent condition, a refreshing break from the far-gone heaps that we normally see for sale. Find it here on eBay in Frisco, Texas with reserve not met.

Ex-Lancia Family: 17K Mile 1969 Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF

This 1969 Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF Fanalone (chassis 818540*002124) is an ex-Lancia family car showing 16,777 miles on the odometer. Originality isn't mentioned, but a 2004 letter documenting Manfredi Lancia's use of the car as partial payment for a Torpedo-bodied Lambda calls it "very original". Also noted is Mr. Lancia's motivation for the trade--"too fast to drive around the hills of Torino". It's described as being in excellent condition with no rust, dings or dents, with $8k in work over the past few months to get it tip-top order. Find it here at Hemmings in New York City for $119k/negotiable. Special thanks to reader Ed L. for the submission!
