We love looking for rust-free cars, but we have learned a ton about how to inspect the dry cars from looking at photos of heavily rusted models. Obviously floors and rocker panels are always at risk, but every model has different special areas where they corrode. We hope that this series is informative and helpful when you are verifying the claims of sellers and their "99% rust free" cars. -BaT This 1962 Amphicar 770 (chassis 100855) is described as a very rotted barn find, and pervasive heavy rust appears to suggest it was used in salt water frequently and literally put away wet. Listed as a parts car or "huge restoration project", the seller adds that many difficult to find parts are still intact including its engine, transmission and one of two factory brass propellers. Ex-Monte Carlo Challenge: 1959 Ford Thunderbird Rally Build This 1959 Ford Thunderbird has been prepped for vintage rally duty, with plates and stickers showing it participated in the now defunct Monte Carlo Challenge series during the mid-to-late 90's. Said to be making 420 HP from a later 390ci FE V8, the car is shown running and driving in a video linked in the ad, and the idea of this boat barreling around the hills of Monaco is wonderfully ridiculous. Click here to read more...   Factory Fuel Injection: Restored 1968 Triumph TR5 with Surrey Top This 1968 Triumph TR5 (chassis CP 1011) was restored last year, the seller listing a Best in Class award at a local Concours shortly afterward as evidence of the work's high standards. Described as one of 1,786 LHD examples built, these cars look identical to their predecessor but offer 150 HP from a 2.5L, fuel injected six. Offered with the interesting, removable factory Surrey top, the seller says it's reliable and photos show a very nicely detailed car. Find it here on eBay in Harrison, Ohio with reserve not met.
