"DAF, originally founded by brothers Huub and Wim van Doorne (DAF = van Doorne Automobiel Fabrieken) started before WWII as a heavy trailer manufacturer, and later for many years was producing heavy duty commercial and military vehicles. Their factory was not far from the home in which I was born in the Netherlands, and as a kid I used to hang over the fence to watch them run all sorts of vehicles on their test track.
