Los Angeles 400: Auctions America California

Over 400 cars will be offered by Auctions America at the LA Airport Mariott in Burbank, California this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday (7/31-8/2), and like many of our favorite sales, its catalog brims with great variety. A high-profile event, the sale will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network the final two days, but if you're in the area and free for the day we recommend checking it out in person and at least throwing in a few fantasy bids. Our four picks are below, while the rest of the catalog can be viewed here.

Ex-Don Vesco: Sharply Restored 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB

This 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB is an early dry-sump, carburated car claimed to have originally belonged to one-time motorcycle land speed record holder Don Vesco. The car looks excellent following what's said to have been a very expensive restoration undertaken by the current owner 10 years and 6,000 miles ago, and though Verde Pino Mettalizzato won't be to everyone's taste we think it makes for a refreshing change from the typical blacks and reds. Find it here at European Collectibles in Costa Mesa, California for $59,500.

French Projectile: 1963 Rene Bonnet Missile

This 1963 Rene Bonnet Missile (chassis 6112) is claimed one of 300 or so built, and though its fiberglass body has seen better days the car itself is said to be complete and in good running and driving order. First built in 1959 as the DB Le Mans, early cars were powered by Panhard horizontally opposed twins following Deutsch Bonnet tradition, those these Rene Bonnet, Missile-badged cars ran Renault Dauphine drivetrains in the same front wheel drive configuration. Find this one here at Joop Stolze in De Lier, Netherlands for 17,500 euros (~$23,504 today).

1969 Datsun 510 Turbo For Sale Front

7/27/2014 Update: We listed this Datsun 510 as a BaT Exclusive three years ago and it sold immediately for a bargain price. The current seller has ditched the turbo L20B and installed a new Rebello 1600 said to make an impressive 197 hp. We still want vintage style seats and deleted tint for this car, but the stance and drivetrain are nearly ideal. Find it here on Craigslist in Ohio for $17k.

Impressively Clean: Restored 1972 Jensen Interceptor MkIII

This 1972 Jensen Interceptor MkIII is fresh from a full restoration that's claimed to have started from a never rusted California base car. Work generally appears to have been of quite good quality, with only a few minor gripes like the modern stereo and ill-fitting glovebox door letting things down. This bright Robin's Egg blue is a striking choice, and though the seller makes no mention of its correctness we think it shows off the car's distinctive roof line really well. Find it here on eBay in "the Midwest" with reserve not met.

Almost There: Partially Restored 1965 Iso Rivolta

This 1965 Iso Rivolta looks to have been last road registered in November of 1987, though the seller claims it is complete and solid apart from some inner rocker rust. Currently wearing primer over surprisingly straight looking sheet metal, the car's interior has been redone at some time in the past and looks serviceable if in need of some tidying, and fortunately the car runs a 4-speed instead of the popular automatic option. Find it here at Hyman in Saint Louis, Missouri for $59,500.

1968 Shelby GT500

This 1968 Shelby GT500 (chassis 8T02S129640-00823) is a two-owner example with a claimed 55k miles on the chassis, though mileage on the engine is unknown since a non-original and running 428CJ sits in place of the original. Despite a replaced motor the car's C6 automatic is said to remain original and turns a 3.50:1 gear in back. Early on, the car received a color change from green to its current maroon/burgundy scheme, and still looks driver-decent despite noticeable fading. Find it here on eBay in Hillsboro, Missouri with no reserve beyond the $65k starting bid.
