This 1957 Austin Champ (chassis R41354M) is described as all original, rust-free, fully functional and a pleasure to drive. Champ was the name applied to civilian versions, and in actuality this one appears to be a "Truck, ¼ ton, CT, 4X4, cargo & FFW, Austin MkI" to use its full, correct model designation. We've read about 13,000 were built in the early to mid 50's, and don't often see them offered for sale—in fact this may be the first we've seen here in the US. Find it here on eBay in Beaufort, South Carolina with reserve not met.

"See Where They Rust" is a series and category where we feature listings that do a particularly good job displaying where certain models tend to suffer from rust. We love looking for rust-free cars, but we have learned a ton about how to inspect the dry cars from looking at photos of heavily rusted models. Obviously floors and rocker panels are always at risk, but every model has different special areas where they corrode. We hope that this series is informative and helpful when you are verifying the claims of sellers and their "99% rust free" cars. -BaT
This 1965 Sunbeam Tiger looks like a decently well preserved shell from outside, where straight, original sheet metal and paint belie the significant rust issues beneath. Recently stripped back to a bare body, glass, trim, interior, engine, transmission and more have been sold off separately or retained by the seller for use on another car, with only what is pictured here included in this sale. Find it here on Craigslist in Yukon, Oklahoma for $5,500 OBO. Click here to read more... |
This 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Berlina is an attractive driver with a known history, and sounds as if it may remain largely if not all original as well. One of about 2,000 built over an eight year production run that ended in 1968, less than 75 are believed to remain worldwide. The last "big" Alfa with a traditional twin cam inline six, this example looks very nice in photos and is said to perform wonderfully on the road, though some cracking paint and non-structural rust both need to be addressed. Find it here at Black & White Garage in Berkshire, England for 9,900 GBP (~$14,994 today).
