This is the second installment in the BaT Success Story of the Tatra that the current owner purchased from a BaT listing way back in 2011 (link). The first BaT Success Story came quickly (link), but the next four years have all been inside a body shop. With paint finally complete, the owner has sent along this second update, and more info on the plans for the car.
"Hello BaT,
An update on my Tatraplan featured on BaT in 2011. After 3 years spent in a body shop (long story, literally) the Tatra is ready for reassembly. It just left Illinois for Florida where Pavel, a brave restorer who specializes in restoring old Czechoslovakian vehicles, promised to transform the rolling chassis plus a whole bunch of boxes of parts into a running car by the end of this year. We think that it only had one photo last time, but had a similar write-up. Details sound interesting, with 23k miles, a $131k original price tag, and 271/56/85 engine number on the 5/6L V8. Find it here on Craigslist in New Hampshire for $135k.
From 11/4/2013:
This 1986 AMG Hammer is said to be all-original and mint with only 23,300 miles from new. One of approximately 30 built, this one sold new for $132,000 in 1986. It's a shame there aren't more photos, as this is one of our absolute favorite cars. It's said to be accident and rust-free and includes full records, and the leve of detail is not in keeping with the absence of pics, so we hope it is for real. Find it here on Craigslist in Rye, New Hampshire for$155k.

This is perhaps the roughest example we've ever seen, and despite the rust-proof sheet metal, corrosion sounds to be extensive underneath—condition of the Superleggera tube structure is especially worrying. Restoration will be painful, time-consuming and extremely expensive—these are fabulous cars though, and we hate to think of this one ending up as scrap. Find it here at Vintage Customs in Tacoma, Washington for $5k firm. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission! Click here to read more... | Also new on Bring a Trailer:
