Like Rockford’s: 1971 Pontiac Firebird Esprit
This 1971 Pontiac Firebird is a well kept example of the marque’s second generation pony car. Devoid of the higher trim lines’ body kit and rear spoiler, this Esprit shows off the clean basic shape of these F-bodies. Resprayed in factory white and sporting a matching original white interior this example is very much representative of its era. Find it here on eBay in Kalispell, Montana with reserve not met.
Amazon Green: Modified 1992 Porsche 911 C2
This 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 is a California sourced car that moved to the East Coast in 2006. Though high mileage with 188k on the odometer, a full specialist engine and trans rebuild were performed less than 3,000 miles back. Tastefully modified with top-shelf parts, the car looks fantastic in rare Amazon Green and has us reconsidering the 993 as our favorite late air-cooled 911 variant. Find it here on 6 Speed Online in Great Neck, New York for $47,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Wilmer G. for this submission.
Amazing History: Ex-Works Long Distance Rally 1976 Porsche 911
This 1976 Porsche 911 (chassis 9117600881) is an ex-factory works car originally built to compete in the 30,000 kilometer “Singapore 30″, claimed within the ad to be the longest rally ever devised. Competition covered Europe, the Mid East and Asia before ending in Sydney, Australia, and though this car finished outside the top ten, just completing the grueling, seven day-long race was rightly considered a great honor in and of itself. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission. Find it here at Coys who are offering it as lot 147 as part of August 8th, 2015’s Nurburgring sale. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
8 Minutes Behind the Jag: Cannonball 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9
This 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 is said to have been restored, though the ad mentions little else apart from the fact that it placed second in the following year’s Cannonball Run–eight minutes behind a V12 XJ-S. According to a history sheet in the ad’s gallery, it took 32 hours and 59 minutes to cover the 2,897 miles between Darien, Connecticut and Redondo Beach in LA–that’s an average of 89 MPH, especially impressive under the then-prevailing blanket 55 MPH limit. Find it here on Hemmings in Holderness, New Hampshire for $60k OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Eneson for this submission.
