BaT Success Story: Porsche 914 Across the USA – Part 2
This is Part 2 in the ongoing BaT Success Story of reader alan n., who bought a Porsche 914 in Pennsylvania and is driving it to California via the Lincoln Highway. Part 1 can be found here.
“We departed early Sunday morning on the 230-mile 4-hour drive to Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park, site of the city’s Vintage Grand Prix racing. The 914 performed well and at about 10.30am, we arrived at our pre-arranged parking with the local Porsche Club on the golf course next to the racing circuit.
Blown Up 427: 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Racer Project
This 1966 Corvette racer may have a blown engine, but its apparently excellent level of preparation seem to outweigh any negatives. Converted for racing around 1976, this car has been raced continually for decades, and now should be eligible for a wide variety of vintage series. Find it here on eBay in Maple Valley, Washington with no reserve beyond an unmet $43,500 starting bid. Special thanks to BaT reader Ed T. for this submission.
Bluebird SSS L18 & 5-Speed Included: 1971 Datsun 510 Project
This 1971 Datsun 510 two door (chassis PL5100221348) offered in what seems to be non-running, project condition. Although rust is present in the front right floor pan and left side of the trunk floor, the car is said to have a solid chassis thanks to a lifetime spent in relatively dry California. Several spares are included, notably a Bluebird SSS spec L18 motor and unspecified 5-speed transmission. Find it here on eBay in Topanga, California with reserve not met.
BaT Auction Alumni: 5-Speed Swapped BMW E34 Alpina
This 1989 Alpina B10 is a previous BaT auction feature sold off last April–check it out here. Now offered on the opposite end of the country with only 1,000 miles added to its odometer reading, the car both looks and sounds to be in the same excellent driver condition as last time we featured it. We dig both the purple paint and graphics, though the recently swapped-in 5-speed manual is what really makes this car shine. Find it here on eBay in Portland, Oregon for $25k OBO.
