BaT Auction Success Story: Porsche Carrera 4 from Sioux Falls to Tokyo

This just in from the buyer of the 1992 Porsche C4 sold via BaT Auctions last month (link):

“Dear BaT,
We got the call last week, ‘Come on down to Yokohama Honmaku Dock B6 on Tuesday – the Carrera has arrived…’ After a multi-stage journey involving land transport to a port in the US, a ‘special inspection’ at buyer cost so US Customs could pull the container and go over its supposed suspicious contents in detail, and a many week journey on a container ship, it was safely unbonded and packed away safely with some new Bomag road-surfacers.

A friend had been looking at 964 for over a year, and while the Japanese cars were generally pristine, they were mostly automatics, rarely C4, and steadily increasing in price. Based on the well-worded BaT description, the excellent photographs and a responsive seller, in 12 short hours he decided to register, stay awake for a bit longer, and do his best to buy this tremendous C4.

The inspection today confirmed the car is in better than advertised condition, better even than many of the Japanese cars we have inspected over the last year, and that Lipstick Red interior is 100 times more impressive in person! With a sluggish battery after all that time at sea, she was connected to a booster box, and fired into life on the first hit of the key. Carefully loaded onto a flat-bed for full shaken inspection and a new number plate, this C4 will soon be enjoying the roads all over Kanto.

Problems? Only two; first, the rear reflector appears to have been cracked in transit, but that’s an easy fix to replace, and second, it is not mine. I do hope though to be able to enjoy at least the sound of that deep booming Ruf exhaust as it passes me on one of the mountain passes we intend to drive soon…

Thanks again to a really smooth buying process via BaT, and a brilliant and accommodating seller.
Kuroneko”

World’s Largest: 1:2.5 Scale R/C Dump Truck, Loader & Excavator

e

This listing is for three different, apparently home-built radio-controlled replicas of various Volvo and Liebherr construction vehicles. Finished in 1:2.5 scale, workmanship looks very impressive and the seller claims that they are the largest of their type in the world. Fully functional and well-detailed, all three (wheel loader, six wheel dump truck and excavator) are powered by 800cc Kohler V-twins. Sale includes an equally well-made looking, four axle, 16 wheel trailer. Find the whole play set here on anibis.ch in Barberêche, Switzerland for 127k CHF (~$130,700 USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Hannes J. for this submission.

Driver Grade: Mechanically Freshened 1967 Lotus Elan S3

Lotus Elan

This 1967 Lotus Elan S3 (chassis 456208) is a mechanically restored but cosmetically fair driver. Right hand drive cars may not always be considered ideal for American roads, but it’s pretty unlikely that the new owner will spend much time at burger joint drive-throughs or drive-up ATMs. Find it here on eBay in Merion Station, Pennsylvania with reserve not met. Special thanks to BaT reader Doug V. for this submission.
