Twin Turbo Six w/ Rear Mounted Transaxle: 1972 BMW “3002tti-L”
This 1972 BMW 2002 (chassis 2761101) has been comprehensively re-engineered to accept a twin turbo M54 BMW six, custom-made rear transaxle, big brakes, upgraded suspension and much more. Called the 3002tti-L, the last letter is for “lightweight”, and true to its name the car tips the scales at just under 2,700 pounds with near-perfect 51/49 front-to-rear chassis balance. Build quality appears astonishingly high. and the seller says it drives as well as it looks. Find it here on eBay in Costa Mesa, California for $105k OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Alan L. for this submission.
See Where They Rust: 1975 Porsche 914
"See Where They Rust" is a series and category where we feature listings that do a particularly good job displaying where certain models tend to suffer from rust. We love looking for rust-free cars, but we have learned a ton about how to inspect the dry cars from looking at photos of heavily rusted models. Obviously floors and rocker panels are always at risk, but every model has different special areas where they corrode. We hope that this series is informative and helpful when you are verifying the claims of sellers and their "99% rust free" cars. -BaT
This 1975 Porsche 914 (chassis 4752911138) is in an advanced state of decay, though not as bad as some Porsches we’ve featured recently. As the 914 is quite different structurally to 911s and 356s because of its mid-engine layout, it brings with it a unique set of issues–many of which are clearly evident on this heavily rotted example. Find it here on eBay in Ono, Pennsylvania for $1,450 OBO.
Black Plate 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible
This 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible is claimed to be a rust-free, Golden State car from the beginning. The seller promises that it runs and drive well and that all power-operated conveniences work well, and these earlier, foil grille cars are arguably better looking than later examples from the same generation. Find it here on Craigslist in La Jolla, California for $31,900. Special thanks to BaT reader tjennings59 for this submission.
2900 Miles: 1984 MB4/94 Case Unimog
This 1984 MB4/94 Case Unimog is essentially a Mercedes Benz Unimog 406 sold through Case in the United States with a unique rear deck. The Unimog can be seen either as the world’s most utilitarian truck, or as the most streetable tractor ever made, though in this Case-branded unit it appears to fall into the latter half of that spectrum. Find it here on Craigslist in Bordentown, New Jersey for $24k. Special thanks to BaT reader Stephen H. for this submission.
