BaT Auction Success Story: 911 Carrera Buyer Takes Road Trip of a Lifetime
The buyer of the 1984 911 Carrera that was purchased via BaT Auctions last month (link) just sent us this note detailing the backstory. He also provided us with a wonderful account of an epic road trip home, which can be read below.
“As soon as I saw the copper-bronze Carrera in my BaT Daily Mail, I knew it was the car I needed. I kept the auction tab open all week and set an alarm on my phone for ten minutes before the auction ended. When the moment came, I saw it was still within my comfort zone so I placed a bid and entered a brief bidding war for the car. It was a riot going back and forth with other bidders and interested observers until my story or my money finally put things to rest.
R-Code 427: 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500
This 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 is equipped with the rare and desirable R-code 427. In addition is appears to be equipped with Ford’s Total Performance slate of go-fast goodies that were cooked up for these when they were marauding the nations drag strips and stoplights. Looking extra sharp in Corinthian White with a code 95 red vinyl interior, if legit this is one of just 212 ever built. Outfitted with fiberglass hood, decklid, front and inner fenders along with aluminum bumpers and brackets this is a neat car. The interior is devoid of radio or heater as all of the heat comes from the massively underrated 425hp dual-quad 427ci V8 under the hood. Find it here on Craigslist in Commerce, Texas for $135,000.
Good Looking Driver: 1986 Subaru BRAT
This 1986 Subaru BRAT is said to have remained with its original owner until five years ago, and any subsequent keepers must have been just as fastidious, as condition looks excellent throughout. Said to be all original, unmodified and accident free with everything in working order, this one’s colors, condition and late production spec make it one of the best we’ve seen in some time. Find it here on Craigslist in Broomfield, Colorado for $5,800.
Unusual Bus Configuration: 1965 Citroen HY Van
This 1965 Citroen HY 72 is a long wheelbase variant that looks to be in need of restoration. The ad is light on useful details, but given that the truck is street parked, it seems safe to assume it gets around under its own power. Where most of these vans seem to have been used for cargo, this one is equipped with large side windows and a city bus style interior. Find it here on mobile.de in Berlin, Germany for 13k euros (-$14,700 USD today)
