Low-Key 500 HP 351W Build: 1956 Mercury Monterey
This 1956 Mercury Monterey (chassis 56LA19756M) looks properly menacing, despite a largely stock exterior. The look is 100% appropriate, thanks to a 500 HP 351 Windsor under the long, inky black and strikingly ornamented hood. Described as fast, fun and reliable, it’s unusual to see these cars hot rodded, but after seeing how well this one turned out, we’re not quite sure why. Find it here on eBay in Mission Viejo, California with a $29,900 BIN.
Rare Hearse Project: 1949 Volvo PV61
This 1949 Volvo PV61 is reportedly one of 500 built over a five-year period ending in 1950, the seller further noting that it’s been sitting indoors for half a century or so. Apparently supplied as a service chassis for coachbuilders, we gather that 61’s were based on Volvo’s standard PV60, itself a rare and relatively large six-cylinder luxury car built during the same period. This hearse conversion has a seized engine, but does roll, and still looks quite complete and restorable. Find it here at eurooldtimers.com in Linköping, Sweden for 5,900 euros (~$6,400 USD today). Odd Mods: $30K & Driving 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
This 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider has been sitting in the seller’s garage for 15 years, but was just recently pulled out, started, and “driven around to test things out.” Despite a few well-intentioned but ultimately incongruous modifications (like modern seats, three-point belts affixed to the rear deck, and oversized custom wheels), the car does appear to hold some promise, and sale includes a hardtop as well. The Other 426: 1963 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge
This 1963 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge (chassis GCCDET664) is serious looking drag strip brawler in Viper Red. Displaying just 6k miles since a rebuild according to the seller, they make no big claims about originality, but the car does look to be quite correct despite a later Hemi-style hood scoop. These two-door post cars were preferred among racers for their relatively lightweight and rigidity, and this one comes powered by a twin-quad topped 426ci V8 and push-button 727 TorqueFlite. Find it here on eBay in Dearborn, Michigan for $48k OBO.
