Four Years Later: 1963 Iso Rivolta Driving Project
12/1/2016 Update: Four years later, and this 1963 Iso Rivolta IR340 (chassis IA330051) is back on the market, still fitted the same previously rebuilt, 030-over Chevy 350 mated to its 4-speed manual gearbox. The car was in need of finishing last time around, and sounds to remain in much the same condition, the seller noting that cosmetics still need to be tended to. Originally powered by a 327 SBC (short block included), the car isn’t too far off original spec in the engine bay, and apart from some hard-to-find missing pieces like the correct steering wheel and seats, the car looks to have a lot of potential. Find it here on eBay in Big Bear City, California with reserve not met.
Final Year Big Block: Untouched 1972 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 in England
This 1972 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 is described by its seller as an all original and numbers-matching 4-speed car, and condition looks very nice inside and out. Starting in 1970, the big block option actually displaced 402ci, but Chevy chose to retain 396 badging. Though heavily down on power for these final year “396” cars, liberating more isn’t difficult, and this one’s colors and condition are both excellent. Find it here on eBay in Alresford, Hampshire, England for 36k GBP (~$45,300 USD today).
Hungarian Streamliner: 1972 Ikarus 55
This 1972 Ikarus 55 is from the penultimate year of production for the Budapest-based company’s iconic streamlined model, and appears to be in unusually good condition too. Powered by a rear-mounted, Hungarian-built Csepel V8 diesel, the 55 may have been named for its year introductory model year, and though once a fairly common sight on Eastern European city streets, most have long since rusted away. The model is prized by collectors today, and this one isn’t much more expensive than the last featured on BaT in late 2014, despite that one being a full-on project at best. Find it here on Autoline in Baja, Hungary for 50k euros (~$53,300 USD today).
Sharp Driver w/ Rebuilt Trans: 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9
This 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 (chassis 11603612004429) is described as a driver with original paint and a good list of recent maintenance. The seller claims that they’re the second owner with documentation proving so, and the chassis is said to be completely free of rust–a handful of low angle shots are provided in support. The color is also a nice, rarely seen metallic gray, and the ad further notes a rebuilt transmission, new tires, cold A/C and fresh suspension spheres. Find it here on Craigslist in Orange, California for $17k.
