Two for $9K: 1985 & 1986 Lotus Esprit Turbo Projects
This 1985 Lotus Esprit Turbo is sold alongside a white ’86 that’s still in the garage–check out the full story for photos of that car, too. The seller says both can be used to make one good runner, and though each one is partially disassembled, the seller says there’s lots of spares. Find them here on Craigslist near Houston, Texas for $9k. Special thanks to BaT reader KLSL for this submission.
Dry Lakes & Street Custom: 1930 Cadillac V16 Roadster
This custom roadster is based around a 1930 Cadillac V16, and sounds to have originally been built for dry lake speed runs. According to the seller, a disappointing 107.7 MPH run at El Mirage resulted in the car’s builder converting it for street use in 1948. Recently discovered in storage, it looks to be complete and in decent, restorable condition, but running condition isn’t touched on. Find it here at Laferriere Classic Cars in Smithfield, Rhode Island for $175k. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
Ex-US Army Europe: 1986 MAN M1001 8×8 in California
This 1986 MAN is a US forces M1001 version of the Munich-based company’s KAT1, itself developed for the domestic German military. An 8×8 design with steering on both front axles, power comes from a 400 horse Mercedes V10 turbodiesel, and the seller reports less than 10k miles. Like many of Tatra’s bigger trucks, secondhand ex-military MAN rigs are very popular in European off-road trials, and though fairly easy to find on that side of the Atlantic, this one’s already Stateside, negating the need for very expensive shipping. Find it here on Craigslist in Hayward, California for $40k OBO.
French FWD Sprite: 1955 Panhard Dyna Junior
This 1955 Panhard Dyna Junior is reportedly one of 4,708 made, and though the car looks nicely restored, the seller claims that it remains original–perhaps they’re referring to sheet metal, trim, and running gear rather than everything including paint and interior fittings. Regardless, these are interesting little cars (like all Panhards), featuring a roller-bearing air-cooled flat twin driving the front wheels. Find it here on mobile.de in Erkrath, Germany for 30k euros (~$31,400 USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
