"I recognize that I'm not likely to convince anyone to accept DCT's into their heart with words, but I would like to give my take on it as a racer who has been a student of the sport and an enthusiast since birth.
When Porsche introduced the synchronized transmission in '52, I'm sure there were purists who didn't like the fact that they didn't have to double-clutch on downshifts any more, as it took away from the engagement of the driving experience. Racing has always been about innovation, and if you look at just about any racing car these days, they have paddle-shifted transmissions.
Now, I love three-pedals as much as anyone - but I have a place in my automotive appreciation for the 'flappy paddle' gearbox as well because it's part of the relentless tide of innovation in motorsports.
That and the backfires when you pull the paddles are lovely."
