Thanks for all the great comments on our Alfa Romeo project update last week! Now that metal work is complete, we have been getting lots of questions on what components we are choosing for the build. We are happy to report that many of those details are coming together very quickly. The biggest help on this front has come from the guys at Alfa Parts Exhange in Acampo, California. They have built us an engine, transmission, and rear axle for the car to the full custom spec required to achieve our goals... better brakes, LSD, more power, 5-speeds,... and most important of all, reasonable cost. By being smart about exchanges and opting for a used Spider 2L as our engine basis, these upgrades have not been as expensive as we had feared they would be. With the chassis now mostly cleaned up, we are getting close to test fitting the drivetrain and adding clean parts to the car! "Hi BaT, The truck was picked up today. Felt like I was selling one of my kids. Oh well, on to the next project! I took a series of photos of it driving into the back of the trailer, sort of an animated sequence. Just needed "She's Leaving Home" by the Beatles playing in the back ground and a handkerchief for that last tear that wasn't caused by a busted knuckle but by a busted heart;)
Dealing with BaT was fantastic, they took my 3 and half page write up and artistically slimmed it down to a manageable, readable summary of the vehicle. They selected the best photos I had to help compliment the article, and provided links to my build thread from the Land Cruiser forum.
The "Batistas" were an even better bonus. Their observations and critiques (both good and bad) I believe helped potential buyers with any of the questions or concerns they might of had. The winner of the auction, surprisingly, never asked me a single question or requested additional photos even though I asked if anyone wanted this repeatedly. When I asked him about that, he replied that through the restoration thread that was linked and the photos requested by BaT, he didn't have any concerns.
The buyer sent me a photo of the truck yesterday sitting next to his Land Rover Defender 90. He said the truck looked "amazing" and it was "safe and sound."
Nice to get a happy ending once in awhile!

The seller believes its 49k recorded miles are accurate and adds that it runs, shifts and drives very well. The automatic transmission is far from ideal of course, but paint is already non-factory so a three pedal swap wouldn't be a sin against originality. Find it here on eBay in Salem, Oregon with no reserve and fast bidding. Special thanks to BaT reader M.R. for this submission. Click here to read more... | Also new on Bring a Trailer:
