Stored 36 Years: 1973 Citroen SM 5-Speed Project

Stored Since '79: 1973 Citroen SM 5-Speed Project

This 1973 Citroen SM (chassis SD0492) has been stored in the seller’s garage for the past 36 years–carefully apparently, as cosmetics both inside and out have held up well since. Offered as a project, the engine is partially disassembled, suspension needs work and rust is an issue as well, but we’ve seen far worse brought back from the brink. Find it here on eBay in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania with reserve not met.

BaT Auction Success Story: 1000-Mile SL500 Road Trip

This just in from the buyer of the SL500 that sold via BaT Auction three weeks ago (link):

“BaT,

I was, fortunately, the high bidder on this beautiful 1998 SL 500 that was sold during what turned out to be another controversial auction a few weeks ago. Drama is getting to be a regular feature on BaT these days…maybe that’s a good thing. Nothing stale or boring going on here!

The kerfuffle, to refresh your memory, involved an erroneous listing of the seller as a "private party" vs. "dealer" which for some strange reason ignited a firestorm of negative comments against said dealer. Personally, I don’t really care if I buy a car from a private party or a dealer as I have had about an equal number of positive and negative experiences from both and maybe a slightly better weighting towards dealers. I chose to hold my tongue, refrain from making any comments (good or bad), and bid. After all, it was the car that I was interested in, or more accurately, my wife was interested in. You see, this whole thing went down just shortly after her birthday and I thought it a perfect opportunity for a "here you go, honey" moment. As long as the bidding didn’t get stupid and I could refrain from jumping into the fray and mixing it up with the peanut gallery, I knew from day one that the Mercedes was going to be mine. Now, to just sit out the auction and wait. My stomach was in knots for the next week! I don’t know how you guys bidding on the really high dollar stuff do it. My pain threshold is simply not that high!
