Driving Project: 1963 Studebaker Fuel Tanker Truck
This 1963 Studebaker 1 1/2 Ton Tanker Truck (chassis E28-8798) features a Phillips four chamber tank with up to 1,000 gallon capacity. Said to have been used by the PO on a farm, the truck is equipped with a V8/4-speed transmission and 2-speed rear, and is currently capable of being driven despite needing brake work. Condition isn’t great as there is rust and Bondo throughout, but it’s pretty cool otherwise and we have yet to spot another. Find it here on eBay in Bellingham, Washington with reserve not met.
BaT Success Story: The Snowy Porsche 356 Shell
Thanks Bring a Trailer!!
Well it all started with a call from my friend, Robert Maynard at RWM & Company. "Hey Dave, did you see the auction in Missouri on Bring a Trailer (link)? They've got a 356a shell".
I check Bring a Trailer every day and saw the estate auction listing but missed two 356a shells on the list!!
Two days before the auction I called Jerry Wood of J Wood & Company Auctions. He told me that I had to be in person to bid. I thanked him disappointedly and called my buddy, Robert back to report the unfortunate news. Robert said "call back and ask if you can have a sealed bid" so I did and after a lengthy explanation with Jerry of owning my favorite high school teacher's 356 and accumulating spares to build a coupster just shy of that lovely shell with the dented in roof. Jerry said "ok, if you wire me cash for your maximum bid by tomorrow, I'll bid for you!"
Wow, I have a chance so I called my bank, had the funds wired and called Jerry to confirm he saw the email with confirmation slip. As luck would have it, it turns out the money didn't go through as there was an account # error but we didn't know that at the time. I was very upset and asked Jerry "what now?" He said "don't worry Dave, I've been in this business over 30 years; you sound honest and I'll cover you till next week". This is my second stroke of luck and I'm feeling on track now.
I didn't hear anything until a day after the auction. Jerry sent me an email "you're one lucky guy, will call you later".
Italian Army Green: 1973 Datsun 510 Four Door
This 1973 Datsun 510 (chassis PL510408684) has several excellent and period-correct modifications like a BRE chin spoiler and Libre wheels. This color, which the seller calls “Italian Army Green” is said to have only been available on Canadian market sedans and remains original. Find it here on Craigslist in Eureka, Missouri for $6,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Jason M. for this submission.
Fresh Resto: 1968 Jeep Gladiator
This 1968 Jeep Gladiator is a great looking example that is claimed to have spent the last 47 years in the same location, benefiting from a dry climate and a full restoration just completed by the current seller. Although running condition is not specifically addressed in the ad, the owner does state they are confident enough to drive it cross country. Find it here on eBay in San Marcos, California with no reserve and fast bidding approaching auction’s end.
