The First V8 Conversion: Rod Simpson Raced 1966 Porsche 912
This 1966 Porsche 912 (chassis 457021) was built and raced by marque enthusiast Rod Simpson, and has enjoyed many successes on and off the track including a number of published articles in various print magazines. Said to be the first V8 converted Porsche, the car has been properly stored in a dry climate when not in use. Find it here on eBay in Los Angeles, California with no reserve.
Never Seen One: 1968 Sirex 2300 HCS
This 1968 Sirex 2300 HCS is the first we’ve ever seen, but is reportedly one of between 20 and 50 built by the Milanese company. Styled by Scaglione and bodied in fiberglass, the company was founded by Giovanni Mandelli and Frenchman Michel Liprandi, the latter of whom was a composites expert said to have been involved in the design of the Abarth 1300 OT Periscopio and ASA 1000 GT under his former company Limaplas. Running 2.3 liter Ford Cologne V6 power, we think it’s a fantastic looking car. Find it here at Sant’Agostino Auctions in Turin, Italy where it will be offered as part of a sale held on December 13th, 2015. Be sure to check out the whole catalog for many other interesting machines. Special thanks to BaT reader Ed. L for this submission.
Dogleg Trans & Plaid Seats: Euro Spec 1986 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16
This 1986 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16 (VIN WDB2010341F218224) is a European-spec version of the classic DTM homologation model that features several benefits over US cars, chiefly among them a higher-compression, more powerful 185 HP Cosworth engine. The seller says that the motor was rebuilt prior to its US arrival, which should have taken care of any typical valve lash issues. This is a 5-speed version carrying the sought-after Getrag dogleg transmission, and the leather/plaid interior is especially cool. Find it here on eBay in Allentown, Pennsylvania with no reserve.
Factory Ford V8 Power: 1964 Lotus 30
This 1964 Lotus 30 (chassis 30/L/5) is an extremely fast example of Lotus’s first large displacement sports racer. Relatively unsuccessful in its day, many drivers considered it dangerous due to weight distribution and aerodynamic lift issues. We’ve seen this very car race however, and today it’s extremely fast and competitive in vintage events. Find it here on Hemmings in Biddeford, Maine for $295,000. Special thanks to BaT reader Rob D. for this submission.
