BaT Auction Success Story: Porsche That Dad Never Had
The buyer of the 1979 Porsche 911SC Coupe that passed through BaT Auctions the other month (link), just got back to us with the road trip story home and included a heartfelt piece detailing events leading up to the purchase of the car, below.
“Today the adventure begins. After an almost sleepless night, I took an early flight to Seattle. Grey clouds hung heavy in the sky, which surprisingly happens quite frequently in the pacific NW. These were completely the same as the clouds that greeted me upon departure from Phoenix, which almost never happens in the desert southwest. I hope this isn’t some sort of cosmic ominous foreshadowing. Upon arriving, the father of a good friend picked me up at the airport and delivered me to the warehouse where my car (The Smurf) was so graciously held for over a month. Inside slumbers my beloved along with numerous other neat cars. There are classic hot rods, Euro sports cars, and even a Lola Race car!
Huffaker Creation: Ferrari 308 IMSA Racer
12/26/2015 Update: This Ferrari is now being listed by the same seller with a substantial, down to $149k from the previous $425k. A selling strategy? New information? We don’t know the justification, but that is one healthy price drop. Find it here on eBay, still in Rogersville, Missouri. Special thanks to BaT reader Nicholas D. for this update!
From 6/9/2015:
This Huffaker Ferrari IMSA GTU racer is chassis two of three built with extensively modified 308 power and 288 GTO-like composite bodywork on top of custom-built chassis. By the time the cars were finished in 1990, a rule change effectively banned them from competition, and as a result this one has spent most of its time in a private collection with only minimal, club level racing and track day use. It looks amazing with clam shells on or off, and the seller says one of the three was nearly three seconds faster than an F40 at a Summit Point Ferrari Club meet. Find it here on eBay in Rogersville, Missouri for $425k OBO.
