Disassembled in the 60’s: Matching Numbers 1962 Lotus Elite
This 1962 Lotus Elite was disassembled for restoration a few years after being sold new in California, and has remained in parts ever since. Why it needed such intensive work after so short a time isn’t noted, but the car is said to be largely complete, including its gearbox and Coventry Climax engine, both also apparently in pieces. Missing items include one seat, the carb, windshield wipers, part of one door window assembly, the speedometer, all three pedals, the windshield, steering wheel, and brakes. Completing the job started 50-odd years ago will take time and money, but the result will be a matching-numbers Elite–a very special car by any standard. Find it here on Hemmings in Garden Grove, California for $40k.
BaT Auction Success Story: 500E Sells From Enthusiast to Enthusiast
This just in from the seller of the 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E that sold via BaT Auctions just a few weeks ago (link).
“Hey Guys,
Just a note and photo to let you know once again BaT is THE BEST place for enthusiasts to get together and exchange thoughts, ideas and cars. The buyer of my 500E (jmhirt) is another car-aholic like most of us on here and we could have talked for days about what we have now, had once or want in the future.
The transaction could not have gone smoother. Really just another GREAT experience selling a car through BaT.
Cheers,
tjsbeer”
Euro Diesel 5-Speed: 1986 Mercedes Benz 250TD
This 1986 Mercedes Benz 250TD (VIN WDB124185F012335) is an unusual example for the US, being a European market example with a diesel engine, 5-speed manual, and relatively low spec. Purchased by the seller in Europe last year, they cite 20k trouble-free kilometers in just a few months as evidence of its reliability. The car has a few small, non-structural rust spots and some additional cosmetic imperfections, but is said to be mechanically sound with many newer suspension components and about 90k miles when converted from metric. Find it here on eBay in Riverside, California with a $7,750 BIN. Special thanks to BaT reader PGN for this submission.
