Cheap All Aluminum Exotic: $2500 2001 Audi S8 Driving Project
This 2001 Audi S8 is said to run and drive very well, though it will need a new front bumper, radiator, and brakes. The seller points out aluminum OEM “Avus” style wheels, perhaps unaware that the majority of the very car they’re attached to is also made of the stuff. With an MSRP of nearly $80k when new, this one is likely now at the very bottom of its depreciation curve, though getting it right could easily run into many multiples of the asking price. Still, it’s hard not to be intrigued. Find it here on Craigslist in suburban Chicago, Illinois for $2,500.
All Original Driver: 1956 Renault Juvaquatre Dauphinoise
This 1956 Renault Juvaquatre Dauphinoise is a somewhat rare, late-production “Break” or estate version, more commonly seen in earlier two-door, four-door, and sedan form. Built from 1937 all the way until 1960, a four-door wagon and two-door coupe were also available. This one’s said to be all-original with just 54k kilometers and one previous owner, and is further claimed to be in very good running and driving condition. Perfectly suited to its patina, the car looks well-used but not beaten-up or neglected. Find it here on eBay in Backwell, Bristol, England for 4.995 GBP (~$7,200 USD today).
Cheap Driver: 1961 Triumph TR3A w/ Hardtop
This 1961 Triumph TR3A (chassis TS67222L) looks like a very decent little driver in photos, and despite being in running, usable condition, is actually priced several thousand below typical asking prices for number four condition cars. Though neither is pictured, sale includes both soft and hardtops, though there’s no word on side curtains. The car may have been sitting for a while until recently, as both the fuel tank and pump have been changed out, with the ad further noting a new battery, wheel bearings, and tires. Photos are so-so, but provided it’s not riddled with hidden rust, there’s a lot to like here. Find it here on Craigslist in Richland, Michigan for $10,500.
Prewar FWD Futurism: 1937 Cord 812 Beverly
This 1937 Cord 812 Beverly is offered with minimal information, but looks very correct with a gentle, honest patina inside and out. A non-supercharged model as demonstrated by its lack of chromed exhaust pipes exiting either side of the distinctly shaped nose, the car retains a correct Lycoming flathead V8, which drives the front wheels through a semi-automatic 4-speed gearbox. Find it here on eBay in Petaluma, California with reserve not met.
