Stuck Doors Driver: 1990 BMW Z1 w/ No Reserve
This 1990 BMW Z1 (VIN WBABA91010AL03806) is a bit of a project, needing mechanical, electrical and cosmetic attention. Imported by the seller, they let the car sit for a year, and now its calling card drop-down doors aren’t working. It will also need a clutch adjustment, power steering belt, and lots of TLC throughout. These are rare and special cars though, and this one might still have a lot of potential–call it a rolling restoration project. Find it here on eBay in Mesquite, Texas with no reserve.
Freeway Geared Troopy: 1991 Mercedes-Benz 1550 L
This 1991 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 1550 L (VIN WDB42412210112934) wears interesting troop carrier bodywork, which in combo with a Claas overdrive, freeway gearing and in-cab A/C should make for a more civilized, frequently usable truck when compared to most. Power windows and locks are nice too, and the seller reports it’ll do 70 MPH tops. Condition looks nice throughout, and the truck comes equipped for trailering with a hitch and electronic brake control. Find it here on eBay in La Junta, Colorado with a $135k BIN.
Ex-RAF Field Service: 1928 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Estate by Hooper
This 1928 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP (chassis 84FH) was originally supplied with a six-light saloon body by Knibbs of Manchester, and subsequently re-bodied by Hooper in order to transport aircraft mechanics, tools, and pilots to waiting planes during WW2–afterward it served at Aintree, traditional home of the Grand National Steeplechase. More recently restored to what’s described as an extensive, money-no-object standard, it’s said to run silently and effortlessly, with excellent cosmetics throughout. Find it here at Beerens in Antwerp, Belgium for 185k euros (~$195k USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
Lesser Known Carrozzeria: 1937 Fiat 508 C Balbo
This 1937 Fiat 508 C is a coachbuilt sedan with elegant bodywork by Balbo, one of the lesser-known (but by no means less skilled) carrozzerias of the day. The seller doesn’t provide any history, but the car appears to have been restored at some point, with a sharp, period-correct look inside and out. The ad does claim that it’s in excellent, ready-to-use condition, and perhaps best of all, that it should be Mille Miglia eligible. Find it here on Auto Scout 24 in Ferrara, Italy for 38k euros (~$40k USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
