Second This Year: 1973 Lockheed Model 901 Dragon Wagon
This 1973 Lockheed Model 901 Dragon Wagon is actually the second featured on BaT this year, and the last one was orange too. This example appears to have been separated from its articulated, driven back half, in effect making a vehicle designed as an 8×8 a 4×4. Originally conceived as a missile transport system, there can’t be more than a handful left, and from what we gather, not many were built in the first place. Quoting from the last feature, “This thing would be plenty cool even if it wasn't engineered and built by the company behind the U2, SR-71 and countless other incredible planes.” Find it here on Craigslist in Gilroy, California for $7k.
Botched Bugeye: 1961 Austin-Healey Sprite
This 1961 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite was purchased by the seller as a project two years ago, but has sat around collecting dust in their garage since. Described simply as “modified,” this obviously includes the custom door cutouts and odd rear end treatment, but may also include mechanicals, as the seller believes that the car has local race history. Last registered in 1966, it doesn’t sound to be running at the moment, but engine and even tires are believed to be original. Find it here on Craigslist in Helena, Montana for $3,200. Special thanks to BaT reader Sever O. for this submission.
Drivable $3500 Project: 1970 Citroen D Special
This 1970 Citroen D Special has its needs, but is said to run and drive with functional oleopneumatics. Rust is said to be limited to the trunk and door bottoms, and though cosmetics are scruffy inside and out, the car still has a ton of charm and could easily be driven as-is while tending to other, more pressing issues. Find it here on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon for $3,450. Special thanks to BaT reader Jason H. for this submission.
Factory 440 w/ Original Interior: 1966 Chrysler Town & Country
This 1966 Chrysler Town & Country is a great looking 440-powered car that’s said to remain all original excluding exterior paint. Apart from the 365 horse factory big-block, other noteworthy original options include bucket seats, power front discs, and dual exhaust. The seller notes all new shocks, a rebuilt front end, steering system, water pump and more, not to mention recently fitted aftermarket A/C. Further said to run and drive great, this is one of the coolest Mopar wagons we’ve seen in a while. Find it here on Craigslist near Santa Cruz, California for $18,500.
