Auction Preview: Seinfeld Porsches at Gooding Amelia Island
These three Porsches represent a small part of Jerry Seinfeld’s personal collection and will be auctioned at Gooding’s upcoming March 11th Amelia Island sale, but can be previewed at Scottsdale starting on January 29th. The trio consists of a 1955 550 Spyder, a 1958 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster and a 1974 911 RSR IROC. Says Seinfeld: “I've never bought a car as an investment, I don't really even think of myself as a collector. I just love cars. And I still love these cars. But it's time to send some of them back into the world, for someone else to enjoy, as I have.” The Amelia Island catalog hasn’t been published yet, but should be up shortly at this link. H/T to Sports Car Market for the scoop.
50K Miles: Well Kept 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera
This 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera is described as a very well cared for example with 50k miles. These 996.2 3.6 liter cars were much improved over earlier 3.4 models, and though probably the least attractive of post-993 water-cooled cars, they’re still a great drive with an unforgettable soundtrack. Combine that with a relatively cool market, and good deals can be found. Find this one here on Craigslist in Rincon, Georgia for $25,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Benjamin M. for this submission.
No Reserve: 1982 Marmon-Herrington AWD Railroad Van
This 1982 Marmon-Herrington van (VIN 1FDPR74N3CVA19356) was originally built for railroad service, and though it retains hydraulically-lowered bogies, the correct type of steel rail wheels are missing. Powered by an 8.2 liter Detroit Diesel and Allison transmission combo, with four wheel drive and a huge cargo area, this could be one very versatile rig for the right buyer. Find it here on eBay in Chester, New Hampshire with no reserve. Special thanks to BaT reader Margaret S. for this submission.
Fresh 1776 VW Dual Carb Swap: 1965 Renault Dauphine
This 1965 Renault Dauphine has jettisoned its original Ventoux engine in favor of a new, mildly built 1776 VW motor. Though still plenty scruffy, the car does feature new reinforced sheet metal flooring and a rear subframe to support the air-cooled flat four. It’s a unique build with tons of character, and the sketchy, unfinished look suits it perfectly. Find it here on Craigslist in Cabool, Missouri for $5,900.
