Massive but Elegant: 1968 Imperial Crown Coupe
This 1968 Imperial Crown Coupe (chassis YM23K8C150457) sounds to be fresh out of storage, where it was put in the 1980’s with the same 76k claimed-original miles it currently shows on the odometer. Paint is a very recent, apparently factory-correct respray and looks excellent, while inside, the car retains original leather, carpets, and headliner in nice shape. Described as rust and accident-free, these pillarless Imperial two-doors have a spectacular presence in person, and the 350 horse 440 big block should make for torquey, smooth progress. Find it here on eBay in Lakeland, Florida with reserve not met.
Price Drop Update: La Carrera Style 1953 Lincoln Capri
3/16/2016 Update: 28 months later, this 1953 Lincoln Capri is back on the market, this time with a quick-n-dirty paint job applied solely to “keep the rust off.” Said to have seen use in unspecified Californian and Mexican rallies, presumably the later refers to the legendary Carrera Panamericana, for which this car is a perfect fit. Power comes from an .040 over 368 Lincoln Y-block and 4-speed toploader combo, and there’s discs at all four corners. The car is still in need of body and interior work, but most parts needed to finish the jobs are included. Find it here on Jalopy Journal in Lawndale, California for $22k–three grand less than last time around.
Restored & Running: 1944 M4A2E8 Sherman Tank
This 1944 M4A2E8 Sherman tank is a restored example that’s been with the same owner for over 20 years. Both the cannon and machine gun are disabled, but the tank itself remains in running, drivable condition. Rubber tracks mean it can be driven on paved road surfaces (though perhaps not legally), and the seller says they’re 80% unworn or better. A GM 6046-powered variant, this engine was essentially two Detroit Diesel 6-71 supercharged sixes arranged in a U-configuration with geared-together cranks. Find it here on eBay in College Station, Texas with reserve not met.
Merak Garage Mate: Lovely 1974 Maserati Bora 4.9
This 1974 Maserati Bora 4.9 (chassis AM11749US762) is described as an “exceptionally well-maintained driver,” and though there are no specifics on originality, the car looks to be in very nice shape inside and out. Running an older, rebuilt transmission and upgraded, rebuilt hydraulics (a complex, Citroen-based system operating everything from seat and pedal box adjustment to headlight door actuation), the car sounds to be ready to enjoy, and sale includes a thick binder of receipts.
