6.3 Liter Factory Widebody: 1991 Aston Martin Virage

b

This 1991 Aston Martin Virage (VIN SCFCAM1S7LBL50088) is said to have been delivered new to Germany, later returning to AM’s traditional home factory in Newport-Pagnell for widebody conversion. It’s unclear if the car was originally equipped with its current 6.3 liter stroker Marek V8, or if the standard 5.3 was enlarged concurrent to bodywork conversion–regardless, output is claimed to be a very respectable 456 HP. Referring to later twin supercharged models, the seller says “this car makes it happen with cubic inches.” Find it here on eBay in Washington, DC with reserve not met, the seller noting that it’s listed locally for $165k.

Updated: Raced From New 1960 Lotus Elite

a

4/8/2016 Update: More than four and a half years later and 1960 Lotus Elite is back on the market, seemingly by the same seller as last time around. Described as one of the very first Elites on US soil, it was raced from new, and is further claimed to have stacked up an impressive 10 podiums out of 20 races during its initial four years on track. A numbers-matching car, its Coventry Climax engine was prepped to Stage 3 spec from new, and number 85 is the same it raced under nearly 60 years ago. Invited to the Monterey Historics in both 2002 and 2003, its early race SCCA race history is documented, and the seller says it shows no evidence of prior repair beyond a few small paint touch-ups. Find it here on eBay in Lake Bluff, Illinois with reserve not met.

Sans Moteur: Pur Sang 1927 Bugatti T35B Recreation

d

This Pur Sang is an Argentinian built, highly accurate replica of a 1927 Bugatti T35B, the final, supercharged straight-eight development of the original, iconic, and hugely successful grand prix model. This one’s complete minus the engine, which incidentally would have encompassed the only two changes from original, Molsheim-built cars to be found anywhere on a Pur Sang T35–namely a switch from roller to plain crank bearings, and a distributor in place of the original magneto–both chosen only for greatly improved reliability. Find it here on eBay in Key West, Florida for $132k OBO.

FWD Handling Runner-Up: 66K Mile 1991 Lotus Elan M100

1991 Lotus Elan M100

This 1991 Lotus Elan (VIN SCCGA36B9MHF36993) is described as a clean, well-maintained example with 66k miles and service documentation covering the past 15 years. These M100 platform models are understandably controversial, but are also among the absolute best handling front wheel-drive cars ever made, perhaps eclipsed only be the original Integra Type R. This one does look to be in unusually good condition, and apart from an erratic boost gauge, sounds to be nicely sorted as well. Find it here on Craigslist in Clinton, Washington for $13,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Henry M. for this submission.
