43 Month Update: 1946 Bill Burke Belly Tank Tribute
5/26/2016 Update: Nearly four years later, and this remarkable 1946 Bill Burke dry lakes belly tank racer replica is back on the market, still in Florida, but now now on eBay. The first car to use a military aircraft auxiliary “drop” fuel tank as the basis for streamlined bodywork, the car was first run at El Mirage in 1946, just over a year after V-J Day. The original disappeared without a trace long ago, but this replica is said to have been built to exacting standards by knowledgeable historians and professionals, with aid from Burke himself. Photos are much better this time around, and the ad is definitely worth a look. Find it here on eBay in Tampa, Florida with reserve not met.
$10K Respray: 1986 Shelby Omni GLHS Number 154 of 500
This 1986 Dodge Omni GLHS (VIN 1B3BZ18E3GD250180) is identified by its dash plaque as number 154 of 500 built. The seller quotes a recent sounding $10k respray, and the car does present quite well in photos, both inside and out. Mileage is quoted as just under 72k, and though details are otherwise rather limited, if it runs as good as it looks, it should be a winner. Find it here on eBay in East Hanover, New Jersey with reserve not met.
Rare Sunroof Delete Sedan: 1997 BMW M3 5-Speed
This 1997 BMW M3 is said to be one of only five known 5-speed equipped Dakar Yellow sedans with factory sunroof delete in the US. Mileage is kind of high at 205k, but the seller describes a well cared for car with typical E36 faults such as the coolant system already sorted, adding “there is nothing left to do but enjoy it.” Find it here on Craigslist in San Francisco, California for $13k OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Bryan M. for this submission.
Factory Fresh: 4K Mile 1985 Toyota MR2
This 1985 Toyota MR2 is a beautifully preserved first model year example which the seller claims to have just 3,875 miles from new–that’s just 125 per year. They add that annual state inspections and oil changes have been kept up on, and that the car is completely original, retaining all parts fitted at the factory–probably including the tires. Sale even includes the original window sticker. Find it here on Craigslist in West Amherst, New York for $10,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Stephen B. for this submission.
