Not Actually Pink: 440/727 Swapped 1961 Chrysler Newport Wagon
This 1961 Chrysler Newport wagon (chassis 8413137854) was found by the present owner in a chicken coop in Utah, where they claim it was laid up from 1978. Said to be nearly rust free with mostly original paint, it seems to fall into the rolling project category with few, mostly cosmetic items to look after. Re-powered with a ’69 vintage and corporate-correct 440ci V8 and 727 TorqueFlite, the car should move very well with lots of big block torque and a nice burble. Find it here on eBay in Woods Cross, Utah with reserve not met.
BaT Auction Success Story: International Arnage Adventure
BaT regular deichenb recently purchased this 2003 Bentley Arnage T via BaT Auctions (link), and has just imported the car to the US from Canada. He’s reached out to us for an update on the whole process, and to fill us in on the adventure home from Toronto to Florida.
“It was time to take Mrs. Buyer on her babymoon, and Mr. Buyer had a little quandary on his hands. Mrs. Buyer couldn't decide if she wanted to go to a Caribbean beach or on a long, culinary adventure. In a moment of genius, inspired by the appearance of this Arnage courtesy of seller Rw1, Mr. Buyer thought it could be best to do both for the babymoon.
Firstly, kudos must be dispensed to Rw1 as an exceptional seller. He communicated promptly both during and after the auction, as well as delivered a car in better overall condition than expected from the images, description and commentary. Both keys and all books and records pictured in the listing were seamlessly delivered by FedEx after the wire for the car was received. Rw1 also willingly stored the car indoors and offered availability for its pickup, all with equal seamlessness and grace.
$5K Drivable Project: 1959 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite
This 1959 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite is a runner, and sounds like it might be drivable, too. The seller notes a freshly rebuilt head, but adds that neither the clutch nor brakes work really well and will need to be bled. There’s some rust too, but overall this one seems to hold a lot of promise for the ask. Find it here on Craigslist in Eureka, California for $5k. Special thanks to BaT reader Harris L. for this submission.
440/727 Equipped Aluminum Camper: 1957 Grumman & Teardrop Trailer
This 1957 Grumman Olson Curbside delivery van has been partially converted to a camper, and though the living area is still in need of finishing, work performed thus far looks and sounds to have been done to a good standard. Described as mechanically sound, power comes from a Chrysler 440 and 727 TorqueFlite combo, a hefty, well-matched drivetrain that should make for good freeway performance. The little teardrop trailer is aluminum skinned as well, and looks ready to use as-is. Find the pair here on Craigslist in Bend, Oregon for $20k.
