BaT Auction Success Story: 1500 Miles With the Wife and Son in a 944
The buyer of the 1985.5 Porsche 944 that was purchased via BaT Auctions (link), just reached out to update us on the transaction and to fill us in on the the post-purchase road trip home.
“BaT,
As a long time lurker and first time purchaser, I wanted to thank you for the pleasant purchasing experience as the buyer of the 1985.5 Porsche 944 recently. Matt, and his brother Michael, were both a pleasure to deal with. Matt was very accommodating and held the car for a couple of weeks until my sons fall break so that we could do an epic road-trip. My wife and I had been looking for ‘something’ to do in our upcoming vacation during my son’s fall break from school. Plus, I had been casually looking for a vintage car that could fit all three of us as my TVR only carries one passenger. I had always wanted a Porsche and 911 prices are out of my budget, the 944 was the right color (not red) and the wife approved (she actually did the last few bids as $8,000 was my limit).
Day 1:
Friday night after work, the wife and my 7 year old son took a 10pm flight to Chicago and stayed at the O'Hare Hilton.
Turbo/4-Speed: 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder
This 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder is said to quite rare as it combines the signature turbo-charged flat-six with a 4-speed in a coupe body style. Claimed to be nearly perfect, the car is originally from Arizona making it dry and rust free. Said to be cool, tight, solid, and fun further details are frustratingly few limiting our ability to make claims about the cars originality. Find it here on Craigslist in Redwood City, California for $12,995.
Nice Period Build: 1965 Dodge Coronet 500
This 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 was originally a 383ci 4-speed car but has since been built into a Day Two street/strip car. A rust free Colorado car was filled with plenty of good parts including a 1969 440ci V8 bored .030 over and fitted with some choice speed parts (solid cam, roller rockers), while the upgraded suspension (including a front sway bar, Super Stock springs out back) handles the strain. The interior wears more period details like the dashboard mounted tach and racing belts. Redline tires and M&H drag radials look perfect on steel wheels, and the rumble from the custom dual exhaust probably sounds wicked. Find it here on Craigslist in Waldoboro, Maine for $34,500. Special thanks to BaT reader Richard B. for this submission.
