Carbon & Kevlar Bodied Oddity: 1988 Mosler Consulier GTP LX
This 1988 Mosler Consulier GTP appears to be an LX version based on its Fittipaldi wheels, Recaro seats, VDO instruments and a few other features not found on base models. The car is reported to have just over 7k miles, which given its low-production, performance-focused nature could be accurate–condition too appears to be excellent throughout. Built around a composite fiberglass and foam chassis with pioneering carbon fiber and Kevlar bodywork, these cars weighed in at just over a ton and featured mid-mounted Chrysler turbo four cylinder power Though kind of weird looking and kit-carish, they positively wiped up in IMSA and were eventually banned from the series after weight penalties were found to be ineffective at equalizing the field–road cars are reportedly very quick with high cornering limits. Find this one here on eBay in South River, New Jersey for $65k OBO. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
Modern AMG Guts: 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Mechatronik
This 1969 Mercedes-Benz started life as a 280SL, but has more recently been fitted with a modern AMG V8 and supporting chassis, brake and safety upgrades. Apart from larger-than-stock tires, external visual clues are minimal, and the Stuttgart-area builder/seller has a fairly long record with these types of classic/modern hybrids. Find it here at Mechatronik in Pleidelsheim, Germany for 299k euros (~$326k USD today).
One of 15: 429/4-Speed 1970 Ford Falcon Two-Door
This 1970 Ford Falcon (chassis 0R26N146097) is reportedly one of 15 final year (domestically) Torino-based examples featuring a 429 4V and close-ratio 4-speed from the factory, according to a briefly mentioned Marti Report which may or may not be included with sale. Featuring fresh Keith Black pistons, the motor was recently broken in, and the car is said to be driver-ready following additional work in the form of replacement sheet metal, a new interior, brakes, tires, and more. Find it here on eBay in Renton, Washington with no reserve.
Nose Job: 1950’s Customized Cord 812 Phaeton Project
This car started as a 1936 or ’37 Cord 812 Phaeton, but was extensively modified sometime in what’s believed to have been the 1950’s. Work included what the seller calls “good fitment” over an unspecified 30’s Chrysler chassis, and underneath the approximately 30″ stretched nose still resides the donor car’s L-head six–reportedly it remains free-turning as well. Floors are rotten, but the chassis is claimed solid, and sale includes bumpers as well as the Cord’s original, beautifully ornate dash. Though potential for financial return would likely be minimal or even non-existent, the car certainly deserves to be saved–we’d start with finding a good donor chassis with the correct 125″ wheelbase, then revert the nose to its original and infinitely more appealing Gordon Buehrig-designed length. Find it here on Craigslist in Cherry Valley, Massachusetts for a “softly suggested” $29k. Special thanks to BaT reader KLSL for this submission.
