Period British Copy w/ Holman Moody VIN: 1965 Willment Cobra Coupe
This 1965 Cobra Daytona Coupe (chassis JW-427-2) is said to be identical to its sister Willment Coupe, itself a modified, British-built version of Shelby’s original. The ad is short on detail, but a bit of investigation seems to suggest that this car eventually wound up with Willment’s North Carolina-based partner Holman Moody, where it resided in their rafters for many years. Intriguingly, the seller says it includes a Holman-issued serial and manufacturer’s bill of origin, despite missing suspension components, an engine and many other parts. Find it here on eBay in Oxford, Georgia with a $245k starting bid and no further reserve. Special thanks to BaT reader Frank for this submission.
See Where They Rust: 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
"See Where They Rust" is a series and category where we feature listings that do a particularly good job displaying where certain models tend to suffer from rust. We love looking for rust-free cars, but we have learned a ton about how to inspect the dry cars from looking at photos of heavily rusted models. Obviously floors and rocker panels are always at risk, but every model has different special areas where they corrode. We hope that this series is informative and helpful when you are verifying the claims of sellers and their "99% rust free" cars. -BaT
This 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider (chassis 149506417) is described simply as a “barn find,” with essentially no other info provided. The car is very heavily rotted, with no floors or rockers and apparently little more than a pair of crossed chains attached to subframes holding it all together. Both engine and trans are included however, but there’s no word on their originality or current condition. Find it here on eBay in Bryan, Ohio with reserve not met. Special thanks to BaT reader Jim K. for this submission.
Bargain Series I XKE: 1967 Jaguar E-Type w/ Ford V8 Swap
This 1967 Jaguar E-type FHC runs a Ford 302 and automatic in place of its original 4.2 liter six and 4-speed manual. Though said to be a running, driving car, it’s also described as a project that’s been partially de-trimmed in preparation for new paint. As shown, the car remains mostly together with somewhat scruffy cosmetics, but mechanically it sounds quite healthy with many new parts listed. The swap itself was reportedly a professional job, but we wish the car still had three pedals. Find it here on eBay in Salem, Oregon with a $27,201 BIN.
Two-Stroke to Twin Cam: 1958 Berkeley SE328 Project
This 1958 Berkeley SE328 is incorrectly listed by the seller as an Italian car–the company was actually based in Bedfordshire, England during its brief but fascinating existence from 1956 to 1960. The car has clearly had its original 328cc Excelsior two-stroke twin replaced, by what appears to be some sort of double cam parallel twin. The seller admits that it needs work, but little else is said. There’s little doubt that the car has led an interesting life, and hopefully the next owner is able to track down some history, along with getting it back on the road. Find it here on Craigslist near Asheville, North Carolina for $6k. Special thanks to BaT reader Lester L. for this submission.
