BaT Auctions Presents: The Paul Perry Saab Collection
This week we are very pleased to present five interesting classic Saab automobiles from the collection of Mr. Paul Perry. For people in the Saab world, Mr. Perry needs no introduction. He was on the race crew in 1968 for the red Saab 96 he is now offering, and opened his own Saab shop called the Swedish Auto Factory in 1978. He has been a consistent presence at vintage racing events for several decades, always in Saabs, and has raced the blue #97 Sonett in over 115 race events. He personally keeps his cars in excellent tune and always nicely modified for increased performance. Now that he is officially retiring from the business and racing, we are very excited that he has selected BaT Auctions to help find new owners for these cherished machines. White Whale: 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado
This 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado (chassis 396876M532726) is one of the nicest examples we’ve seen recently of Bill Mitchell’s iconic design. Presented with an attractive white exterior and red interior the car is said run very well though there are some interior electrical issues – including in-op A/C. Find it here on eBay in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
90k Original Miles: 1984 VW Rabbit GTI
This 1984 VW Rabbit GTI (VIN 1VWDC0175EV097417) is being offered from a marque enthusiast that has a number of American and overseas market cars in his collection. This one is a mostly original survivor that’s had only 90k miles logged since it was sold new, and though photos are a bit distant, we bet it would clean up nicely with some good detail work. The ad mentions that rust isn’t an issue at all, but unfortunately doesn’t elaborate on the motor and its running condition. Find it here on The Samba in Belmont, New Hampshire for $10,995.
Group A Spec: Marlboro BMW 635CSi Track Car
This BMW 635CSi is a tribute to the original Group-A racer which bore the same livery back in 1983, and is based on a correct E24 frame and chassis. The seller doesn’t offer too many details and specifics, but the car is reportedly as close to the original as possible with essentially no detail forgotten or overlooked. As of October, it was seeing use in a touring car series and the ad includes a few photos of the car in action in addition to stating that it comes fully homologated with FIA paperwork, making it race-ready. Find it here on RaceCarsDirect in Kirton Lindsey, England for £195k (~$244k today).
